About the Pet Loss Support Group

Calgary's Pet Loss Support Group (PLSG) was the first of its kind in Canada. It was established in 1990, when a group of concerned and caring people met to discuss the impact of companion animal death on their lives. The group was co-founded by Terri Perrin and Dr. Cindy Adams and supported by more than a dozen other dedicated volunteers.
The PLSG was registered as an Alberta Society in 1992 and approved as a federal registered charity that same year.

Today, the important work of the PLSG is supported by members across Canada and operates with a group of dedicated volunteers. The PLSG remains 100% volunteer-run. It is funded through donations, memberships and the sale of educational resource materials.

The PLSG handles approximately 300 calls for support and general information each year - all completely free of charge. While most calls come from Calgary, the group has also provided much needed support and resource materials to people across Canada and the United States. We have also assisted with the start-up of more than a dozen other Pet Loss Groups across Canada.

Volunteers who respond to messages on the PLSG line are trained as "support workers." Our volunteers are people who have known the tremendous love of a companion animal, and who have experienced the pain of pet loss. PLSG volunteers can offer you compassion and understanding, providing much needed support to help you cope with your loss.
